Kurt Cobain's Mysterious Death
This page has been visited
times since September 24th 1998
After reading some books, a lot of pages on the internet, and watching some videotapes, I have not yet formed my personal opinion of what happened to Kurt Cobain during the first days of April in 1994. On this page I will list all the possible "evidence" and arguments I could find from the sources mentioned above, but I won't try to reach a definite conclusion. I want to leave each one of you to think about it on your own. The points listed below are all direct quotes !
- When Kurt overdosed in Rome, Courtney referred to it as an accident. Just after Kurt's death she said it was a suicide attempt.
If she thought it was a suicide attempt, then why didn't she do anything to protect Kurt from trying again? Why didn't she say anything to Dylan Carlson before he bought another gun with Kurt?
- After Rome, officials at Geffen Records were terrified. Kurt was worth millions to the label and they couldn't afford to lose him.
- Kurt's best friend Dylan would have never bought a shotgun for him if he thought Kurt was suicidal at that period.
- When Kurt checked in to Exodus Recovery centre in LA, he called his mother and made a date to go fishing with his grandfather next week. Kurt's grandmother, Iris Cobain, recalls that he sounded very happy when he called her.
- Dylan said that Kurt was making all sort of plans for when he got out of rehab.
- Kurt loved his daughter Frances Bean too much to leave her alone... He said "Holding my baby is the best drug in the world". Frances was what he lived for.
- The expression "I hate myself and I want to die" that Kurt used quite a lot was just a joke. Kurt was the most sarcastic guy you'll ever meet.
- One of Kurt visitors at the rehab later said: "I was ready to see him look like shit and depressed, but he looked so fuckin great."
- Kurt was going to have a divorce with Courtney. He had also made a new will, which he hadn't yet signed. According to some people he probably excluded Courntey from his new will. The police have refused to reveal the contents of the new will.
- Kurt had said that Nirvana were not going to take part in the mega alternative tour of Lollapalooza, for which they would make millions. "Courtney went ballistic", says Dylan Carlson. She was absolutely mad that Kurt was giving up so much money.
- During an interview in March 1998, Dave Grohl admitted that Nirvana were going to break up at the time of Kurt's death.
- When Courtney hired PI Tom Grant to locate Kurt, she failed to mention that Cali (nanny) had seen Kurt at the Lake Washington home the day before.
- On Monday April 4, a Michigan investment counsellor claims that he met Kurt in a park near Kurt's house. During their lengthy conversation, Kurt asked him if he had ever been threatened. He replied affirmatively, and Kurt said that he feared for his life.
- Courtney asked Tom Grant to setup surveillance at various points, but NOT at their house at Lake Washington.
Other details regarding Tom Grant and his investigation can be found at his web-page.
- When Kurt's body was found, the police automatically said that it was a suicide. Only a few polaroids were shot in the greenhouse where Kurt was and another film taken was not even developed. The case was closed before it even opened.
- No legible fingerprints were found on the shotgun or on the pen that was used to write the note or on the box with his drug paraphernaelia.
- Someone tried to use Kurt's credit card to buy $43 worth of flowers after he was dead.
- Two experts found that there were two different sets of handwriting on the "suicide note". The interesting point here is that the part that Kurt definately wrote didn't say that he was going to kill himself. It implied that he was leaving the music business. A note for his fans rather than for his wife and child.
- Kurt's blood contained 1.52 ml of morphine per litre, which is more than twice the fatal dose even for a heroin addict who has built up a certain tolerance to the drug. According to J.J.Platt's study Cobain's morphine level would be 75 times the lethal dose for a non-user. Even if Kurt did survive this overdose, he would have never been able to roll down his sleeve, put his drug paraphernaelia away neatly, pick up the shotgun put it in his mouth and pull the trigger.
- If he actually intended to kill himself after surviving the overdose, then why did he load the shotgun with three cartridges? In case he missed???
- El Duce, an LA musician featured in Nick Broomfield's documentary, claimed that he was offered $50,000 by Courtney to kill Kurt just a couple of months before Kurt's body was found. He passed a lie detector test by the world's top polygraph expert. Just a week after he was interviewed by Nick Broomfield, he was found musteriously dead. He was hit by a train while he was going to buy some beers with a friend he had just made, whom nobody had ever seen before. The police stated that his death was an accident. Nobody ever saw the person he was with again.
- Just a week before Kurt's death Courtney called the place where El Duce worked and said that she needed him for something they had arranged. At that time El Duce was on tour with his band. Courtney went mad according to the other person working with El Duce.
- The medical examiner in Kurt's case knew Courtney way before she got married with Kurt. This should be a reason for someone else to handle the examination. Shortly after his potential conflict of interest was revealed, he left the King County medical examiner's office and took a job in a small town in Florida.
- Rosemary Carroll, Courtney's lawyer, told Tom Grant that she knew something was going wrong with the whole situation. She suspected there was foul play from the beginning.
- A series of other mysterious deaths followed, which might be linked to Kurt's death.
- PLUS A LOT MORE ...
Ok, I think I have included almost everything I could find. If we carefully examine every single detail of this case I believe that we can come to a definite conclusion, that no one can doubt:
Kurt Cobain's death MIGHT not have been a suicide.
If we rule out the possibility of suicide then it's obvious it was a murder. By whom, why, how ... ? We can make up a number of different stories concerning this issue ranging from a simple hit to a big conspiracy theory. One is for sure: I think we owe it to Kurt, to all Nirvana fans around the world and to the 68 young people who took their own lives believing that Kurt had killed himself, to have this case re-opened and learn the truth.
"Let's all remember Kurt for what he was: Caring, generous and sweet. Let's keep the music with us. We'll always have it forever."
